Envigado only had three shots on target, and it was just enough to achieve an important win away from home. Last semester they only had two league victories when playing away against Rionegro and La Equidad, which they were having a poor semester in the league.
Millonarios had 72% of the ball possession and a man advantage since the 53rd minute, but it was tough for Jorge Luis Pinto’s team to make a comeback. The midfield was lacking ideas and precision; the first goal from Envigado came at the 15th minute after Cesar Carrillo lost the ball in a risky side of the midfield. The Ambassadors showed no reaction after the goal. A few minutes later came the second goal from the visitors at the 28th minute from an unfortunate freekick that touched David Silva’s elbow. It changed the ball direction, leaving Jefferson Martínez with no chance to stop the ball.
Very early in the second half, José Moreno scored in a corner kick. The Ambassadors were creating a couple of dangerous attacks that almost led to an equalizer. José Moreno had an excellent debut, but Hansel Zapata and Jefferson Martínez couldn’t show many their skills that brought them to this big team. They need time to adapt to this team that has been working together for almost three years ago.
There are few new faces this semester, but still, it can seem that the team hasn’t fully recovered from the unexpected early elimination from last semester playoffs. It is just the start of the semester, and there is a long ride to improve to become a competitive team for the league title and qualification to a continental competition next year.
