MATCH PREVIEW: Millonarios – Envigado

Millonarios were very close to qualifying to the final last season. The fans questioned their ability to qualify for the final after an astounding performance in the regular season. Jorge Luis Pinto and the board in the offseason decided to offload some players and bring new players to strengthen some area.

Cristian Marrugo went back to Puebla, Juan Guillermo Dominguez became free agent, Roberto Ovelar went back to his home country to play for Club Olimpia, and Matias de los Santos is a step away from joining Velez Sarsfield in Argentina on loan. Millonarios brought in Jefersson Martinez from Envigado, Jose Luis Moreno from Once Caldas, Hansel Zapata from La Equidad, and Cristian Arango from SL Benfica. The club is still looking to sign two more players before the window closes — a player to replace Matias de los Santos’ position and an attacking midfielder or a striker.

Envigado, on the other hand, had a busy transfer window. The club offloaded Jefersson Martinez, Guillermo Ochoa, Daniel Londoño, Jesus Martinez, Neyder Moreno, Nicolas Rubio, Wilfrido de la Rosa, Brayan Lucumi, and Carlos Rojas. They brought in several players; Juan Jimenez, Luis Tipton, Humberto Mendoza, Michael Lopez, and Wilmar Jordan.

Wuilker Fariñez came back injured from the Copa America and the manager decided to let him rest and get back in form. Alex Rambal received his fifth yellow card in the last match of the previous season, therefore, he’s suspended for today’s match. Matias de los Santos is very close to joining Velez Sarsfield and the club has already removed his name from the roster under the DIMAYOR. Cristian Arango has yet received his transfer so, he’s ineligible.

Millonarios defeated Envigado 1-0 in the league opener last season in Envigado. Juan David Perez scored the only goal of the match.
