Millonarios is ready for the Professional Women’s League!

The Ambassadors will participate for the first time in the Professional Women’s League. DIMAYOR had established that the competition would take place from July 14th to September 30th and 20 teams will participate in this year’s edition.

Millonarios presented their women’s team on Thursday morning at the Torre Empresarial Allianz, which happens to be one of their main sponsors. The board, the coaching staffs, and players presented themselves to the press. The club’s president, Enrique Camacho, and the manager, Douglas Calderon, emphasized reaching an international stage to raise visibility from everyone. They also mentioned that the preseason started earlier this week and they have been working with 21 players.

Format

If Millonarios wants to become champions, they would have to go through different stages. Competition format:

  • Twenty teams, divided into five different groups of four teams. It’s a round-robin format. The first place of each group and the best three-second place teams will advance to the next stage.
  • With the eight teams, the league will draw them into the quarter-finals, and from there, they go to the semifinals and final. It’s a two-legged match for each round in the playoffs.

This is how the first stage looks like, and it’s being separated by region:

  • Group A: Once Caldas, Atlético Nacional, Independiente Medellín, and Deportivo Pereira
  • Group B: La Equidad, Independiente Santa Fe, Millonarios FC, and Fortaleza CEIF
  • Group C: Atlético Bucaramanga, Real Santander, Cúcuta Deportivo, and Atlético Junior
  • Group D: América de Cali, Deportivo Cali, Atlético FC, and Cortuluá FC
  • Gr0up E: Atlético Huila, Deportes Tolima, Patriotas Boyacá, and Deportivo Pasto

One of Millonarios’ fiercest rival is Independiente Santa Fe, and they won the very first edition of the Professional Women’s League. They already have experience in this competition.
