Started off on the right foot!

The Ambassadors started on the right foot in the playoffs, bringing back home three crucial points from Cali. It wasn’t an easy match against America as expected, and the referee made it even more complicated with multiple wrong calls which fortunately didn’t impact much the game for the visitors. The referee awarded an inexistent penalty for the home team and showed eight yellows and two reds to the Ambassadors.

In the first half, America dominated the game, but the Ambassadors were more dangerous when attacking; having two outstanding opportunities with Roman and an incredible header goal from Lasso at minute 34. Then, in the second half came the majority and the most severe mistakes from the referee, giving an early and unfair red card to Roman at the 51st minute. The red card and Jaramillo’s and Rambal’s injuries forced Jorge Luis Pinto to restructure the team, which was very organized and committed to defending the result. At the 81st minute, Lasso took advantage of a mistake in America’s defensive game and scored the second goal for the Ambassadors. Finally, the referee was going to appear again; awarding a penalty to the home team and Yesus Cabrera scored the consolation goal at the 94th minute. A few seconds before the match ended, the referee showed the second red card of the night to David Silva.

This semester the injuries have difficult for Millonarios and considering the suspensions, the manager will have to use players from the bench or the reserve squad. Some of those players played mostly in the league cup; they have shown a lot of progress and the willingness to help when they are needed.

From this match, there are also various positive facts to highlight. First, Juan David Perez’s return to the starting lineup in a league match, even though he couldn’t show his best version. Secondly, the growth and confidence that Lasso is showing are making himself a place in the top scorers of the league. And lastly, the unity and the teamwork showed by the team in adverse situations. This is just the beginning and there still a lot to go over to achieve the league title.
