Millonarios defeated Patriotas in Tunja on Sunday afternoon and qualified to the playoffs. From this match and until the end of the regular season, Millonarios can rest some players and make some rotations so; the usual starting players can be well rested for the playoffs. Although earlier this season, Jorge Luis Pinto had mentioned that he wanted the team to grab the most possible points. He had said in yesterday’s press conference that Millonarios had not won anything yet and the most crucial part is in the playoffs.
The Ambassadors has been strong this season in El Campin and out of the seven games played in Bogota, they have won five times and drew twice. The idea is to continue being undefeated in their home field. The manager in the previous press conferences expressed that he wanted to strengthen the defensive game because Millonarios were conceding too many goals. Luis Payares will not be available due to the accumulation of five yellow cards, and Alex Rambal will replace him. Roberto Ovelar and Juan David Perez are still in the recovery phase of the injury and will still be unavailable. Eliser Quiñones will return to the squad and may feature in this match.
Deportes Tolima had a bumpy ride earlier this season and has been steady since matchday #9. The Ibague based team has not been strong playing on the road. Out of the seven matches outside of Ibague, they have won three times, drew once, and lost three times. Now breaking down their goals this season, 62% of their goals, 13 goals, have been in the second half. Their strikers have scored 67% of the goals, 14 goals. Deportes Tolima heavily relies on their 4-3-3 formation. They use one defensive midfielder and two box-to-box center midfielders and also heavily rely on their wingers. Luis Gonzalez is a player to keep your eyes on because he has scored five goals and assisted twice this season.
The match between these two last year in El Campin ended 1-1 with Roberto Ovelar’s and Nilson Castrillon’s goals. Millonarios defeated Deportes Tolima 3-0 in the 2017-I season and on the scoresheet, Santiago Mosquera scored twice, and Ayron del Valle scored once.
