2017 was an unforgettable year for any Millonarios fan; The team won the Liga Aguila II in one of the best scenarios ever imagined, defeating Independiente Santa Fe away with a goal scored at the death of time.
However, while the main squad was celebrating, young ambassadors from all the categories in the academy remained empty-handed as neither of the academy teams participating in the different national championships reached final stages and were prematurely eliminated. We are confident, however, that in the following years, we will be witnesses of significant achievements in the academy. We are asserting this after having observed the high level which different players in the academy have reached, attracting even the attention of coach Miguel Ángel Russo and making them eligible for a possible debut in the professional team this year. The following are players that fans might see playing alongside Santiago Mosquera, Christian Huérfano, Andrés Román and Omar Bertel soon:
Nicolás Murcia (19)
Born in Bogotá, Murcia was announced as one of the new players in the professional team last year but hasn’t been able to show his skills yet. The young ambassador plays as a center midfielder and often contributes in attacking situations. Before being part of the professional team, Murcia played for five years in the Millonarios academy, being often selected during this time for the Bogotá team. He scored seven goals last year in the national youth tournament.
Juan Camilo Salazar (20)
Together with Nicolas Murcia, Salazar was also brought in to the professional team last year. He was born in Armenia, and before taking part in the professional side, he spent two years in the Millonarios academy. Salazar plays as a winger but can also be used as a playmaker. During the national youth championship, Salazar scored nine goals becoming the top scorer for Millonarios in the tournament
Dandy Choles (18)
Choles has been part of the academy since 2014. He was born in Guajira and plays as a forward. Thanks to his performance in Millonarios, Choles was called up several times to the Bogotá team. He scored six goals in national youth championship last year.
Juan Camilo Garcia (20)
Garcia is another fascinating prospect from the academy. Born in Bogotá, he plays as a defensive midfielder and has been part of the Colombia U-17 and U-20 national teams several times. Garcia has been in the academy since 2013 and scored three goals in the national youth championship last year.
